Solar Power Tower

چکیده

In a molten-salt solar power tower, liquid salt at 290oC (554oF) is pumped from a ‘cold’ storage tank through the receiver where it is heated to 565oC (1,049oF) and then on to a ‘hot’ tank for storage. When power is needed from the plant, hot salt is pumped to a steam generating system that produces superheated steam for a conventional Rankinecycle turbine/generator system. From the steam generator, the salt is returned to the cold tank where it is stored and eventually reheated in the receiver. Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of the primary flow paths in a molten-salt solar power plant. Determining the optimum storage size to meet power-dispatch requirements is an important part of the system design process. Storage tanks can be designed with sufficient capacity to power a turbine at full output for up to 13 hours.

Techno-Economic Analysis of Solar Tower Aided Coal-Fired Power Generation System

In this paper, we conduct a techno-economic analysis of a 1000 MWe solar tower aided coal-fired power generation system for the whole life cycle. Firstly, the power output (from coal and solar thermal energy) under variable direct normal irradiance and grid demand are studied. Secondly, a financial assessment is performed, including profits and losses of the plant project. Thirdly, sensitivity ...

Facing technological challenges of Solar Updraft Power Plants

banded ultra-violet solar radiation, the high-rise solar tower to updraft the heated air to the atmosphere, and in between the power conversion unit, where a system of coupled turbines and generators transforms the stream of heated air into electric power. A good efficiency of the power plant can only be reached with extra-large dimensions of the tower and/or the collector area. The paper prese...

Design considerations and construction of an experimental prototype of concentrating solar power tower system in Saudi Arabia

A prototype of a solar power tower system was designed and constructed to produce electricity from solar energy. This prototype of a solar power tower system was constructed and installed at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia where solar intensity is excessive. Heliostats were implemented to capture the solar rays during daylight. These mirrors are used to direct the solar energy to a so...

Thermodynamic analysis of an idealised solar tower thermal power plant

In the real solar tower thermal power system, it is widely acknowledged that the thermodynamic irreversibility, such as convective and radiative loss on tower receiver, and thermal resistance in heat exchangers, is unavoidable. With above factors in mind, this paper presents an ideal model of the solar tower thermal power system to analyze the influence of various parameters on thermal and exer...

Concentrating Solar Power

DESCRIPTION Concentrating Solar Power (CSP), also referred to as solar thermal power, uses mirrors to concentrate the sun's rays to heat a fluid that is then used to generate electricity, often using conventional steam turbines. There are three primary CSP technologies: parabolic trough, solar tower, and dish engine. The most common CSP system is the parabolic trough, which uses curved mirrors ...
